GOAL!!

Last week at Micah's 3 year old check-up, his pediatrician gave me some information about behavior charts for toddlers (potty charts etc). As I was reading through it, I realized, hey this is what works for me too!! I recently participated in a healthy competition. I don't diet, but for some reason a competition that had me keeping track of points on my little spreadsheet cured me of my sweet-tooth for 10 weeks. I was amazed! (Thank heavens for free Sundays though!)

One of the reasons I love running marathons is that it is a huge accomplishment, broken up into daily goals like running sprints or hills. I love printing out my little schedule and checking off each day that I did what I was supposed to. You gradually build up and find that wow, I just ran 20 miles. Check!

I'm trying to figure out how to motivate myself in different aspects of life. My closets for example are in dire need of cleaning, before school gets out! I just don't wanna do it...I figure maybe if I make myself a chart or checklist, it might actually get done!!

So my current goals are: run another marathon (I entered the St. George Lottery - wish me luck!), clean my closets, floss my teeth daily (yes, another goal that I have to mentally make myself do) and finish the Book of Mormon, by July 13 (per Bishop Heaps!) My question is: What are your goals, and how do YOU get/stay motivated?

JaNae is one who makes New Year's resolutions she intends to keep. She still works on Music Theory every day, sings hymnns ten minutes per day and practices the piano and the organ every day. In order to comlete tasks she has to comlete, but does not really enjoy such as cleaning, she alternates them with these and other activies she does enjoy.

Jenny, we're a lot alike! I have a really hard time staying motivated. If I have a lot to do one day, I'll sit down and make a list of what needs to get done in order of importance and then check them off as I go. I also have to make a daily schedule, or else I'd probably just lounge around all day! Haha, I sound lazy, but I'm really not. It feels so good to check my items off my daily list.

First I am amazed that you even run at all, I hate running and I think I would have to have a dog chasing me if I actually wanted to go fast. I don't have such a hard time cleaning my house it's kind of a stress relief for me, but I agree about lists and having some accountablity to actually light a fire under myself, and deadlines are always goo.

Having just started running, I am so impressed with how we'll you're doing! Marathons? Wow! I am very much like you. If its not on a to-do list, I don't do it. My secret though is that if I calendar the action item with a specific day and time, then I cross it off my to-do list as soon as its scheduled. Then I just have to follow through with my schedule. Probably overly-anal but oh well. :)
