A Leisurely Stroll for the Cure

While my parents were on their mission, things happened just like the Ensign said they would. The blessings started rolling in, and in many ways our families were able to benefit from them giving of themselves in a foreign country for 18 months. We prospered. Jobs went well, babies were born and grandchildren thrived.

Once they arrived home, we were SO happy to have them, but it seemed like life got a bit rocky for a while. Grandkids with swine flu, an apartment broken into and the shocking news that our mom had breast cancer. Luckily they caught it in the early stages and surgery and radiation were expected to take care of the problem. Would you believe that mom and dad got into a car accident and totaled their newly purchased car on the way to her surgery last December? It was a series of most unfortunate events. Thankfully no one was hurt and as far as I know they haven't resubmitted papers yet...

Mom's surgery went great and she was a champ through radiation, trying to remain positive and never wanting to burden us with her problems . Things look really good so far. Yesterday we were able to celebrate a bit as my sister and sisters-in-law (we missed you Laura!) participated in the Race for the Cure. It was amazing to be a part of this event and see just how many lives are affected by cancer. Along with 18,000 other participants, we strolled along the course, exercising our mouths more than our legs and feeling happy to be together. I'm so grateful that mom has done as well as she has, and for these great women in my life. Happy Mother's Day to all of you amazing ladies and especially to my dear mom. As I've contemplated motherhood this day, I can't think of a better example in my life of a righteous mother. You've given your all for your family and I hope that someday some of your amazingness will rub off on me!!

Thanks for everything mom! We love you!

What a great event! I'm sure glad we all stretched out. Next year I'll lead us in so vocal exercises to stretch out our mouths, since they got more of the workout. Thanks for organizing this, Jen. It was great!
