My amazing husband, Phil, as of July 1st is the new President of the American Academy of Orthotics and Prosthetics. He's pretty cool. Phil has served on the board for 5 years and will continue with 2 more years as President and Immediate Past President. He does a great job and somehow does it without taking too much time away from our family. Last month, for their annual board meeting, they decided to invite spouses along to meet each other and get a better vision of what the academy does and the people who are involved. This year the meeting happened to be in DC. It was a little stressful getting the boys where they needed to be (Jacob had a baseball tournament and Micah and Ben ended up with my parents), but once we got there, it was such a good experience.
Phil and I met with my good friend Sarah from High School and her husband for dinner the first night we got there. They currently live back east and it was so good to see them and their cute family (I also got to go to church with them that Sunday). I didn't think to get a real picture, but we got this selfie at the airport.
Friday morning we got up and went for a run. What a great place to run around, we headed for the mall, past several monuments and past the White House.
Saturday, while our spouses met, the rest of us headed to the Holocaust Museum and Arlington Cemetery. It was a pretty humbling day, but great to be surrounded by such a fun group.

Beautiful!
We then met for breakfast and all of the board members and spouses got to tour around the city in an awesome bus, go up the Washington Monument and to see the Academy's office. It was great to spend time with these wonderful people and to ponder on America and it's past. Probably my favorite memory from the weekend was after dinner on Saturday night. Four of the couples got together and rented bikes to go see the monuments all lit up. It was a beautiful, peaceful night. The crowds were gone, we had the sidewalks mostly to ourselves, it had cooled down and it was just fun to ride around the city and ponder on our freedoms with these great people!! Loved it!
Thanks Phil for dragging me along and letting me have this opportunity to enjoy our nation's capital with you and this amazing group of people! Good luck with your year as president...you're off to a great start!
