Spring Break 2016

I LOVE Utah! I have loved it more and more over the past 10 years that we have been back and been exploring it with our children.  As Spring Break approached, we realized we'd only get one free day with Phil, so we'd better make good use of it and have an adventure!  Destination: Kodachrome State Park for some camping and hiking.  I love the first sight of red rock.  Beautiful!
Man made or natural?  I think it is mostly natural, but regardless I was pretty excited!!
Phil screeched to a halt at first sight of a hike.  Glad he did.  This was a beautiful stop after a long drive.  We discovered it was the Mossy Cave and Waterfall Trail.
 My attempt at a selfie!
This was the "waterfall" portion of the hike.  It wasn't quite roaring yet because it is so early in the season.  The boys had to take turns dunking their heads.
 My handsome almost-10 year old!
This is the Mossy Cave Portion.  The water actually seeps through the rock all year long and it was cold enough that there was moss and ice!
 Awesome (boy and view!)
 Love these guys!
It was a bit windy and cold, and when we realized the zipper to our tent was actually not functional, we were concerned it would be a LONG night!  Luckily we were able to rig it shut, then climb through the pet door to get in the tent all night! The wind also died down, which was very helpful.
Pretty great view for a campsite! After we got the tent set up, we headed out to explore Kodachrome.
Our first hike was Panorama Trail.  Absolutely love these boys, and this picture!
It was a lovely hike.  I really love the red rock hikes!
Gotta take a shadow Family photo!
When asked their favorite part of the vacation, almost all of us included our campfire.  Our Traditional Smeeps (Peep Smores) and just chatting with our boys, while the stars shone brightly above.  It really was a great evening.  Broken tent and all!! (We deposited our tent, broken camping chair and Phil and I's air mattress that was completely deflated in the dumpster as we exited the park!)

Saturday we woke up for some very Chilly Hiking! We started on Grand Parade Trail.  Without the sun, it was FREEZING!  But it was very colorful and we discovered why they call it Kodachrome!
Jacob was freezing in his little sweatshirt, but tried to be tough!

Phil and I were very impressed with the little tree on top of the cliff there.
 Gorgeous!
On top of Angel's Palace trail we could see clear to Bryce Canyon.  It was beautiful!
Grandstaircase?  We never really were sure where exactly it was, but there was some really cool scenery on our drive.
Next stop, Devil's Garden, just past Escalante.
On the drive there, I told Phil, "Dang it, we should have brought Easter Eggs for an Easter Egg Hunt!"  Well Phil is brilliant and stopped in Escalante.  I grabbed the supplies I could round up and we had the coolest Easter Egg Hunt Ever.  Devil's Garden is a bit like Goblin Valley and the boys loved running around, climbing on rocks, and yes, finding Easter Eggs!

I little lizard popped out here while I was hiding eggs.
Phil really wanted to see Bryce Canyon with snow.  Because it had snowed in the area earlier in the week, we decided to take a chance.  We walked from Sunrise to Sunset Point and enjoyed a beautiful view of Bryce with Snow (and squoze out all the energy the boys had left!!!)  Nicely Done Phil.
It really was a beautiful sight.
I love spending time out in God's beautiful world with these guys of mine.  It is such a great time to get away from it all and enjoy nature.

We had some more spring break fun like staying in a local hotel, swimming, the movies, hotel breakfast and ESPN.
Jacob and I got to go see the Jazz play verses Golden State as the try for their record winning year.
We also made a quick trip to the Ogden temple to do baptisms.

These boys have worked very hard this year and it was fun to be able to spoil them a bit and enjoy some free time together.  Now we all get to work hard and finish out the year strong.  Love you boys!
