The Jog-a-thon

Somehow, a couple years ago, in an effort to not be the PTA president, I agreed to be a part of our school's Jog-a-thon committee.  The Jog-a-thon is our yearly fundraiser, which has done quite well over the past 5 years to support the school activities for the year.  This year was special because the extra funds we have earned, contributed to build a community walking track at the school.  It was really fun to be a part of this event and a bit stressful.

We started the school year out with a Jog-a-thon assembly.  Our awesome amputee athlete, Cody Reese was back again this year.  This time Cody introduced a contest for the students to create a Jog-a-thon banner that his company would make for us.
The kids were excited and the entries were great!!
I was so impressed with them that I made signs with each of the class' winning banner.  Micah won for his class and I thought he did a great job!
We were also pleased and honored to have Mr. Kelly, our retired PE teacher come and be a part of the jog-a-thon.  He was able to be here for the opening of the track and he brought a special bell to start the jog-a-thon each year from now on.  It was very sweet to see how excited the kids were.  Mr. Kelly got very sick last school year and is now in a wheel chair.  It was a beautiful thing to have him there.

Besides the signs and banner contest, I helped with buying the food, making the cotton candy, the set up, the take down, the prizes, the counting money etc.  It was a fun night, once we got there, but very stressful, especially trying to figure out what the weather was going to do while we watched it change from rain, to sun, to snow then just cold.

The kids did great though, the weather held, and my favorite moments of the night were running a few laps with each of the boys.  Micah ran 30 laps.
 Benjamin got 33!
What a great way to spend an evening and so much fun to watch the kids smiles on their faces.  It helps them see they can do hard things, they can contribute to our school and they can make a difference in our community.

Way to go Adelaide Tigers!!
